About this tool

Music Practice Kit combines everyday instrument-practice utilities into one mobile-friendly browser app: tuner, metronome, tap BPM, drone tone, and practice timer can be used from the same interface.

It also includes microphone recording and a real-time frequency spectrum. Audio used by the tuner, recorder, and spectrum view is processed in the browser and is not uploaded to Browser Kitty.

Good for

  • Tune guitar, ukulele, bass, or other instruments before practice
  • Use a metronome and timer together to structure technical practice
  • Record a take for playback or inspect a live frequency spectrum

What it can do

Key capabilities available in this tool.

How to use

  1. Choose tuner, metronome, practice tools, recording, or another section based on your task.
  2. Grant microphone permission when using tuner, recording, or spectrum features.
  3. For tuning, choose Chromatic or an instrument preset and adjust the A4 reference if needed.
  4. Set BPM and meter for the metronome, or use Tap BPM.
  5. Combine drone, timer, recording, and spectrum tools as useful during practice.

Supported

  • Tuner: Chromatic, Guitar, Ukulele, Bass; A4 reference from 430 to 450 Hz.
  • Metronome: 30-300 BPM, 2-7 beats, Tap BPM, and first-beat accent.
  • Practice: C2-B5 drone tones and 5/10/15/30-minute or custom timer.
  • Microphone: recording with playback/save and real-time frequency spectrum.

Limitations and notes

  • Tuner, recording, and spectrum features require microphone permission.
  • Browsers that block microphone access on file:// require HTTPS or localhost.
  • Wake Lock and available recording formats depend on browser support.
  • Tuner accuracy is affected by the microphone, ambient noise, input level, and instrument timbre.

Frequently asked questions

Is microphone audio uploaded?

No. Pitch analysis, spectrum processing, and recording run in the browser. Recordings remain in device memory until you explicitly save them.

Can I use it without microphone access?

Yes. Metronome, Tap BPM, drone tones, and the practice timer work without microphone permission.

Can I tune instruments other than guitar?

Yes. Along with Chromatic mode, presets are provided for guitar, high-G ukulele, and four-string bass.

Can I save a recording?

Yes. You can play it back in the page and then save the recording file produced by the browser.

Offline version and source code

GitHub provides a self-contained single-HTML build. Features such as the metronome work locally, but some browsers block microphone access from file://, in which case use the HTTPS version.
