A meeting recording or interview MP3 may contain an unwanted pause, restart, or mistake in the middle. Trimming the beginning or end is straightforward, but removing something in the middle also means joining the surrounding audio.

Browser Kitty's Audio Cutter & Joiner lets you split at two points, remove the unwanted section, and export the remaining clips as one MP3. You can use the waveform to find the cuts and preview the join before saving.

Editing happens in your browser without uploading the recording to a conversion server. No account or installation is required.

Open Audio Cutter & Joiner

1. Open the MP3 file

Open Audio Cutter & Joiner and select the audio file. On a computer, you can also add it by dragging and dropping it onto the page.

Select the imported clip to show its waveform. Use it as a guide, but listen around the unwanted part to identify the actual start and end.

WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG, WebM and other files may also be readable, depending on the browser and operating system's audio codec support.

2. Split where the unwanted section begins

Move the playhead to the beginning of what you want to remove. For example, if a restart runs from 1:10 to 1:25, place the playhead near 1:10.

Select Split here. The recording becomes two clips, and the clip after the cut is selected automatically.

If the cut is misplaced, use Undo immediately to reverse that split. The original MP3 file is not modified.

3. Split again where the unwanted section ends

Within the selected second clip, move the playhead to the end of the unwanted section. The time display starts at 0:00 for each split clip, so for a section from 1:10 to 1:25 in the original recording, seek to about 0:15 in this second clip.

Select Split here again. You now have three clips: the part to keep before the cut, the unwanted middle part, and the part to keep after it.

Listen around both boundaries instead of relying on the waveform alone. A cut through the start or end of a word may remove speech you intended to keep.

4. Remove the middle clip

In the clip list, find the unwanted middle clip and remove it. Only the first and last clips should remain.

The app exports the remaining clips in list order as one audio file, so there is no separate join command. If the order changed, use drag-and-drop or the Up/Down buttons to restore it.

If you remove the wrong clip, choose Undo before making another edit. The app supports one-step undo for the latest eligible change.

5. Preview the join

Select the first remaining clip and use Preview next junction to hear how it ends and the next clip begins. Preview from start plays the intended sequence.

Check for clipped words or an abrupt change in the conversation's rhythm. If the result sounds unnatural, adjust the start or end of a clip slightly and preview again.

This is not an automatic silence detector or an effect that smooths every edit. You choose the part to remove and listen to the result.

6. Trim the beginning or end if needed

If there is dead air at the beginning or extra speech at the end, use the waveform handles or the Start/End time fields to trim the kept clips.

Reset trim restores the current clip's original bounds. For a clip created by splitting, it cannot restore audio outside that split fragment.

Because the source file is kept intact, you can adjust the boundaries carefully before exporting.

7. Export and save as MP3

When the join sounds right, open Export, choose a filename and MP3. You can select 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps; 192 kbps is the initial bitrate.

Select Export audio, then download the generated file. Your original recording is not overwritten.

The app re-encodes audio during export, even when an MP3 is saved as MP3. It is not a lossless stream-copy cutter; the output is 44.1 kHz stereo.

WAV is also available. M4A/AAC export requires browser support for AAC encoding. Long recordings may fail to export when device memory or processing power is insufficient.

Editing on a phone

On a phone, use the bottom Clips, Edit and Export tabs. Set the split position under Edit, then return to Clips to remove the middle section.

Use Export to save the result before closing the page.

Is the audio uploaded to a server?

Audio Cutter & Joiner loads, displays, splits, previews and exports audio within your browser. It does not upload the selected recording to a processing server.

The hosted version initially downloads its HTML, but editing needs no external API or CDN. Its distributed single-HTML version can work offline in a compatible browser.
