About this tool

Frame Animator makes animated GIF and Animated WebP files from sequences of JPEG, PNG, or still WebP images. Reorder frames, tune each frame's duration, preview forward/reverse/ping-pong motion, and export the result.

Use it for short photo sequences, stop-motion-style image animations, or explanatory GIFs made from screenshots. Loading, previewing, and encoding happen in the browser; the source images are not uploaded to an external server.

Good for

  • Combine several PNG or JPEG images into an animated GIF in a chosen order
  • Arrange sequential photos into a stop-motion-style animation with custom frame durations
  • Create Animated WebP from still images with control over file size and quality
  • Show a simple sequence of screenshots as an explanation without preparing a video

What it can do

Key capabilities available in this tool.

How to use

  1. Select multiple JPEG, PNG, or still WebP images; you can also drop or paste images into the app.
  2. Arrange frames using the drag handle or previous/next buttons, then duplicate or remove individual frames as needed.
  3. Choose a common frame duration and adjust selected frames individually within the 20–10,000 ms range.
  4. Set canvas size, fit/crop positioning, and background, then choose forward, reverse, or ping-pong playback with a loop count.
  5. Preview the sequence, choose GIF or Animated WebP, and adjust palette/dithering or quality/lossless settings before generating.
  6. Play back the generated GIF/WebP in the results view, check duration and file size, and save it.

Supported

  • Input: JPEG/JPG, PNG, still WebP; multi-select, drag-and-drop, and clipboard image paste.
  • Limits: 200 frames maximum, 50 MiB per image, 500 MiB combined input, 50 megapixels per image.
  • Timing/playback: 20–10,000 ms per frame in 10 ms increments; forward, reverse, or ping-pong; once/infinite/2–100 loops.
  • Canvas: 16–4096 px for each side; fit or crop placement; transparent, white, black, or custom background.
  • GIF: 64/128/256 colors and dithering toggle; WebP: quality, lossless, and effort settings.
  • Export: animated GIF or WebP, with progress/cancel and generated-file preview; Japanese/English on desktop/mobile.

Limitations and notes

  • Only still JPEG, PNG, and WebP inputs are supported. Videos, animated GIF/WebP, APNG, SVG, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, PDF, and PSD cannot be imported.
  • There is no pixel-level drawing, transition effect, audio addition, or MP4 export.
  • Large or high-resolution frame sequences and lossless WebP encoding use more time and memory and may fail even within app limits.
  • Animated WebP is not an MP4 video. Some image viewers show only its first frame, so verify animation in a compatible browser.
  • Working images are kept only during the open session and are discarded on reload or closing the page; there is no automatic project restoration.
  • Current Chrome and Edge are the main test targets; Firefox, Safari, Android, and iOS browsers are best-effort.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make an animated GIF from PNG or JPEG images?

Yes. Add JPEG, PNG, or still WebP images, arrange them, set each frame's duration, and save an animated GIF.

What is the difference between GIF and Animated WebP?

GIF uses a palette of up to 256 colors and is useful when compatibility matters. Animated WebP supports richer colors and a lossless option, but some viewers may display only a still frame.

Can I import video files or an existing GIF?

No. Inputs are JPEG, PNG, and still WebP only. Use the separate Video to GIF / WebP tool when converting footage.

Can I change individual frame durations and loops?

Yes. Set frame durations from 20 to 10,000 ms and choose forward, reverse, or ping-pong playback with once, fixed-count, or infinite looping.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The hosted page first downloads the app HTML, but the selected images are imported, edited, encoded, and saved within the browser without uploading them.
